In a garden city, the houses were designed as a whole: the same window design, the same colours, the same proportions. A window that departs from them is immediately noticeable from the street. Before changing the colour, material or divisions, check with your commune’s planning department (urbanisme). We can then reproduce the existing design as closely as possible, in uPVC or aluminium, while replacing the original glazing with double or triple glazing.

Houses and flats: making the right choice

In a house with a garden, the project often goes beyond the windows: a new front door, a sliding patio door onto the terrace, sometimes replacing every opening at once. uPVC offers an excellent balance between insulation and price; aluminium is better suited to large glazed areas and slim lines. In a flat, the decision also depends on the co-ownership: check the building rules before choosing a colour, and if you rent, ask your landlord for written agreement before anything else.

Near main roads and tram or bus routes, most noise gets in through the windows. Triple glazing makes bedrooms noticeably quieter – as long as the installation is fully airtight, because a badly made seal lets in sound as easily as air. In flats on higher floors, which catch more wind, the way the opening sashes close deserves the same care: well-adjusted locks and hinges stop whistling and leaks in the autumn gales.
